Reto con garra en Guerreros Mundiales
B1 Spanish hallásgyakorlat · Mexikói spanyol · középhaladó tanulók számára válogatva
What does “garra” mean in Spanish sports slang?
Garra literally means an animal’s claw, but figuratively it’s grit, drive, the will to fight through adversity — a staple of sports talk across the Spanish-speaking world. “Vengo con mucha garra” means “I’m coming in hungry, fighting.” A player who refuses to give up saca la garra. The metaphor is the claw that won’t let go: tenacity made physical.
The line plays the two senses against each other: one speaker brags he’s con mucha garra (full of fight), and the reply teases that he’ll need actual garras (claws) just to peel the fruit — literal claw versus figurative grit in one breath. Bonus regionalism: in parts of Mexico garras can also mean old clothes or rags, as in “saca esas garras a lavar.”
