Insulto argentino con remate muy picante

What does “boludo” mean in Argentine Spanish?
Boludo is the defining word of Argentine and Uruguayan speech, and it swings entirely on tone. Among friends it’s “dude / mate” — ¿qué hacés, boludo? is a warm “hey, man, how’s it going?” Said sharply, it’s “idiot”: ¡qué boludo! (“what an idiot!”). The literal origin is crude (bola = “ball”), and pelotudo is its harsher, always-insulting big brother — never the friendly one.
The clip’s “qué culado, loco” rides the same register: rough, intimate Rioplatense banter where loco (“dude”) and boludo soften an insult into ribbing among mates. Outside that closeness, boludo lands as a real insult, so it’s not for strangers or bosses. From it grows a whole family — boludez (“nonsense / a trivial thing”), hacerse el boludo (“to play dumb”), al pedo aside — making boludo a true gateway into how porteños actually talk.
