Wie man Saft richtig mischt – lustig mit Papa
A2 German hallásgyakorlat · Német · kezdőknek számára válogatva
What does “was raus muss, muss raus” mean in German?
“Was raus muss, muss raus” is a shrugging, all-purpose German phrase for anything unavoidable — literally “what has to get out, has to get out.” It covers venting frustration, blurting out an opinion you’d normally hold back, or any other situation where holding something in stopped being an option. The phrase carries a note of resigned humor: whatever’s about to happen, there was never really a way to stop it.
The verb underneath, rausmüssen (“to need to get out”), is the colloquial short form of herausmüssen, and it works on its own too — “ich muss hier raus” (“I need to get out of here”). The doubled structure (“was X muss, muss X”) is a flexible template: you’ll also hear “was sein muss, muss sein” (“what must be, must be”) for the same shrugging inevitability.
