What does “sportbegeistert” mean in German?
The key part is begeistert, meaning thrilled or really keen. Put any hobby noun in front of it and you say someone is passionate about that thing: sportbegeistert (mad about sport), musikbegeistert (into music), fußballbegeistert (football-crazy). Once you spot the pattern, you can both read and build these words on your own — there are many of them in everyday German.
“Seit wann bist Du so sportbegeistert?” = “Since when are you so into sport?” The dad asks it straight-faced, right before the kid admits he only wants to run because he broke Mama’s favourite cup. The trick: a noun + begeistert means “really keen on that thing”. So sportbegeistert = mad about sport, musikbegeistert = into music, fußballbegeistert = football-crazy. Examples: “Sie ist sehr kunstbegeistert.” (She’s really into art.) “Die Kinder waren total begeistert.” (The kids were thrilled.) On its own, begeistert just means delighted or thrilled: “Ich bin begeistert!” = “I love it!” Put a hobby noun in front and you describe a fan of that thing.
