What does “tele van a tököm” mean in Hungarian?
After three days fighting flat-pack furniture, the narrator snaps: “tököm tele volt ebből” — roughly “I’d had it up to here with this.” Literally it says “my tök is full,” where tök is slang for testicles, so the phrase is genuinely crude — closer to English “I’m sick to death of it.” It is everyday spoken Hungarian among friends, but keep it well away from polite or formal company.
A clean, all-ages alternative with the same meaning is “tele van a hócipőm” — “my snow-boot is full.” Tök itself is innocent in most words: it means “pumpkin/squash” (tökfőzelék) and powers the intensifier tök jó (“totally good”). The reel pairs the gripe with a nicer idiom too: “úgy haladt, mint kés a vajban” — it went “like a knife through butter.”
