What does “찐” (jjin) mean in Korean slang?

찐 (jjin)
Korean "no-cap" intensifier slang
찐 (jjin) — the “real deal,” a clipped 진짜 that stamps anything as 100% genuine.

찐 (jjin) is Korea’s word for the real deal. It’s 진짜 (jinjja, “real”) chopped down to one punchy syllable, and it acts like a stamp of authenticity you slap onto anything: a 찐팬 is a true, no-cap fan; a 찐친 is a ride-or-die friend. When you feel something genuinely rather than putting it on, that’s 찐 — the opposite of fake, forced, or for-show.

Here a young actor admits he “송중기 배우를 찐으로 좋아했다” — he liked star Song Joong-ki for real, not just politely, which is why he couldn’t focus on set. That adverbial 찐으로 (“genuinely, for real”) is a favorite move. It spread through online and variety-TV culture in recent years and got a big boost from trot singer Youngtak’s 2020 hit “찐이야 (Jjiniya)”; you’ll also see the origin explained as a dialect-flavored take on 진짜, though that’s best treated as folk etymology. Build with it freely: 찐텐 (real, un-faked excitement, vs. 억텐 forced hype), 찐맛집 (a genuinely great restaurant), or just 찐이다 — “that’s the real thing.”
