What does “dju” mean in Flemish Dutch?

Dju is what slips out when something finally goes wrong once too often — a short, sharp Flemish exclamation of frustration, close to English “ugh!” or a muttered “damn it.” It comes from the Brabant dialect, spoken across both Belgian and southern Dutch territory, and traces back to the French oath nom de Dieu (“name of God”) — worn down over generations into one blunt syllable.
