What does “passage” mean on French TV?
Un passage normally means a passageway, or a passage of text. In broadcasting it is your appearance on a programme: the moment you passe on air. Merci pour ton passage is what a host says to a departing guest — “thanks for coming on” — and son passage à la télé is someone’s TV appearance. The verb behind it is plain enough: passer à la télé, to be on TV.
The same noun stretches a long way: un passage piéton (pedestrian crossing), un passage à niveau (level crossing), au passage (“by the way, in passing”), être de passage (“to be passing through”). Here the host signs off a deadpan interview with merci Zack pour ton passage, then delivers the plug — vous pouvez retrouver l’album sur toutes les plateformes.
