What does “nyomás!” mean in Hungarian?
Nyomás literally means “pressure,” but as a stand-alone shout it means “let’s go” or “get moving” — the verbal equivalent of a shove out the door. Hungarians fire it off mid-errand, whenever a beat of urgency needs marking, often doubled for emphasis: nyomás, nyomás! It’s punchier than the more neutral gyerünk (“let’s go”), closer to barking “move it!” at someone already halfway out the door.
In this back-to-school vlog, a rushed mother fires off “nyomás, nyomás, nyomás!” three times in a row while hustling her daughter toward the door — the doubling is what turns a neutral word for pressure into a command that’s impossible to ignore.
