What is a “brigadeiro”?
This recipe makes a looser, scoopable version: «Brigadeiro de colher sem leite condensado» (“spoon brigadeiro without condensed milk”). The brigadeiro is Brazil’s national sweet, a rich chocolate fudge usually rolled into balls and coated in sprinkles.
No Brazilian birthday party (festa) is complete without them. The name means “brigadier”: the treat is said to be named after Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, an air-force officer who ran for president in 1945. “De colher” (“by the spoon”) means you skip the rolling and just dig in.
