What is “chocomelk” in Belgium and the Netherlands?
Chocomelk is Belgian-Dutch chocolate milk, and in Belgium especially it’s the unofficial post-training drink for half a generation of kids. The iconic brand is Cécémel, a 1949 Belgian invention now owned by FrieslandCampina. Every gym bag, every school cafeteria, every kid’s after-game snack-box has a Cécémel drinkpakje in it. Sports nutritionists have pointed out it actually does contain a respectable post-workout carb-protein ratio, which gives the snack-as-recovery framing more credibility than the marketing usually deserves.
