What does “verheiratet” mean in German?
Verheiratet is the everyday German adjective for “married.” It comes from heiraten (to marry) with the prefix ver-, which turns the act into a lasting state. So er ist verheiratet means he is in the state of being married. Crucially, the clip spells out exactly what that means: er hat eine Frau — he has a wife — giving you the word and its real-world meaning in the same breath.
The guessing game in the clip builds a character portrait one detail at a time — fat, bald, lazy, loves beer — and slips verheiratet into the list with an immediate gloss: der Mann ist verheiratet, er hat eine Frau. That repetition is the drill. Beyond “married,” heiraten gives you the related verb: Wann habt ihr geheiratet? (“When did you get married?”).
