What does “비기다” mean in Korean?

Rock-paper-scissors games teach win and lose fast, but this one lingers on the outcome learners forget: 비기다, “to tie.” When a brother and sister both throw scissors — “형도 가위를 내요” (“my brother also throws scissors”) — the video spells it out plainly: “우리는 비겨요,” “we tie.” It sits alongside 이기다 (to win) and 지다 (to lose) as the third, matching result in any Korean game or match.

이기다, 지다, and 비기다 are the three verbs any Korean sports broadcast or game night runs on — “누가 이겨요? 누가 져요?” (“Who wins? Who loses?”) is literally how the clip ends. A tie isn’t treated as a non-event the way “no one won” can feel in English: 비기다 gets its own clean, dedicated verb.
