What does “mevulbal” mean in Hebrew?
The clip’s hero is יובל המבולבל — “Yuval the Confused” — who can’t decide who he is. מבולבל, “mixed up,” comes from the verb בלבל, “to confuse,” a doubling of the ancient root בלל, “to mix.” That’s the very root the Tower of Babel story plays on: at בבל (Babel), the Bible says, God “mixed” the world’s languages. Every modern Israeli who says “I’m mevulbal” is carrying that echo.
Genesis 11:9 is really a pun: the city’s Babylonian name meant “gate of the god,” and the Hebrew text answers it with balal, “to mix up” — turning a boast into a joke. The family in daily use: אני מבולבל / מבולבלת “I’m confused” (male/female), בלבול “confusion,” לבלבל “to confuse someone.”
