What does “faire la tête” mean in French?

Faire la tête is to sulk: to stop talking to someone and make sure they can see you are cross. It is the standard description of a child in a huff, a partner who has gone silent, or a friend punishing you without saying why. Note the verb — French does not “have” this mood, it makes it: elle me fait la tête depuis hier, “she’s been sulking at me since yesterday.”

Faire la gueule is the same idiom one register down (la gueule is an animal’s mouth), and bouder is the neutral verb a textbook would use. All three take the same shape, so learning one pattern gets you the family.
