How do you say “make a plan” in Arabic?

رسمت الخطة (rasamt al-khuṭṭa)
Arabic collocation
“I drew up the plan” — in Arabic, plans are drawn, not made

The young singer in this clip announces أنا رسمت الخطة — “I’ve drawn the plan” to win The Voice Kids. رسم, “to draw,” is a natural partner of خطة (“plan”) because the noun itself descends from خطّ, a line: a plan is literally a set of lines you sketch out. The connection runs deeper — تخطيط, “planning,” is the same root, line-drawing turned into strategy.

You’ll also hear وضع خطة (“to set down a plan”) and, colloquially, عمل خطة, but رسم is the collocation with the built-in picture. The root خ-ط-ط keeps giving: خط is a line, handwriting, and a phone line; مخطط is a blueprint or a scheme — and someone يخطط لشيء is plotting it, for good or ill.
