هل سرقة البطيخ من أجل الصديق صحيحة؟

What does “habba” (حبة) mean when counting in Arabic?
The stolen goods in this clip are حبة البطيخ — not “a grain of watermelon” but one watermelon. حبة literally means a grain or seed, and Arabic uses it as the universal counter for fruits, vegetables, and small round things: حبة موز (a banana), حبتين طماطم (two tomatoes). It’s also how you count pills — حبة دوا is a dose of medicine. Order produce without it and you’ll sound like you’re buying the whole crate.
The story frames it in a market scene: نصف كيلو من الموز (“half a kilo of bananas”) for bulk, but حبة بطيخ for the single melon that gets swiped — for a sick friend’s birthday cake, as the twist reveals. Bonus idiom: حبة حبة means “little by little, easy does it,” one of the most-used calming phrases in Levantine and Egyptian speech.
